We finally arrived here in sunny Pullman, Wa. It is H-O-T here. Of course it is. Take a look at any historical weather data for this place and you'll see that the average temps on the dead of summer only get into the mid 80s. This month they've had record heat...especially the last few days. It was timed, coincidentally, with my arrival. I wouldn't think much of it except that, since normally there isn't this much heat, the apartment doesn't have AC. So we've been a little warm. You can imagine all the trips up and down the stairs, the cleaning, the painting, etc. in this apartment with no AC and the temps near 100. Ouch.
We now have two box fans running, one on either side of the apartment in the windows, and it's creating a nice little vortex of wind. I think we will survive. I told Kara we can make it through for a few days and see if the heat breaks. It's supposed to be back down in the upper 70s by Friday. The good thing is the wild temp swing is at night. It drops like 40 degrees after dark, so we've been sleeping just fine. It's crazy...as soon as the sun gets below the horizon, you can watch the thermometer start to tick off like a bomb timer. Needless to say, we've loved the night time here. And with the humidity at 20%, 60 degrees feels cold.
We painted all day yesterday. I've never had a harder painting job. It wasn't the heat so much as the paint quality. The paint was horrible going on the walls (we painted the living room and our bedroom). It wouldn't spread, wouldn't go on, and was incredibly sticky. I wonder if the temperature had anything to do with it. The lack of humidity here led to quick drying though. And I must say that Kara picked out some beautiful colors. The place looks quite different already!
The movers are coming within the hour (supposedly) and with them will bring all of our worldly possessions (most of them anyway). It will be good to sleep in my own bed again! It's been since the beginning of July since I've seen that bed or anything else that I own. We've been living out of a suitcase for almost a month! I'm ready for that foolishness to be over and done with. There will be pictures posted once I can get them up.
